Two of TEDxBeaconStreet’s 2012 speakers, Jon Friedman and Ashley Stanley, are named as visionary thinkers in Boston Magazine’s May feature on The Power of Ideas:  75 Bold Thinkers Who Are Shaping Our City (And the World).

Jon Friedman, President and CEO of Freight Farms, gave his 2012 TEDxBeaconStreet talk  Thinking Inside the Box about his vision to revolutionize food production by enabling food to be grown anywhere, inside specially-fitted “up-cycled” shipping containers.  Freight Farms is dedicated to supporting (and revolutionizing) urban agriculture, allowing for high-yield, local food production that is good for the environment and cost-effective.

Ashley Stanley, Founder and CEO of Lovin’ Spoonfuls, gave her 2012 TEDxBeaconStreet talk Social Justice Through the Power of Food about rescuing healthy, perishable food that would otherwise be discarded, and redistributing it to community organizations where it can have positive impact.  To date, Lovin’ Spoonfuls has rescued more than 1.3 million pounds of food that would probably have been wasted.

Congratulations to Jon and Ashley for their recognition in Boston Magazine;  check out the portion of the article that features them here.
